FOSTER PROGRAM

Make a difference to the animals in your community!

We are looking for caring foster homes for various animals!  At this time we are looking for people to provide temporary homes throughout the year for moms and their litters and weaned kittens and puppies too young to be adopted; animals that are not adjusting well to the shelter environment and may need the one on one attention and comforts of a home environment; and animals recovering from an injury that need a quiet home environment to help with their recuperation.

We are also in need of people who have experience with dogs that can foster some of our more timid dogs that are not doing well in a shelter environment.  Some dogs may also need some one-on-one attention to work through minor behavioural problems.

Under socialized animals will also benefit from a home environment with more frequent handling. The role of the foster parent is to provide an appropriate and safe environment for the foster animal and to spend quality time with their foster animal every day.  Some of our animals may only require a home for one week, whereas others may need three months.  By being a part of our Foster Program you are helping prepare the animal for adoption into a permanent home and also, at times, to prevent overcrowding in our shelter.

We are also looking for committed volunteers who would like to play a key role in our Foster Program, such as Cat or Dog Foster Coordinator and Foster Parent Recruiter/Interviewer.

How do I become a foster parent? People who are deeply committed and have a genuine love and concern for animals and would like to find out more information on fostering can contact the shelter @ 604-740-0301; or via e-mail Sunshine Coast SPCA  or stop by the shelter.

Interested people will be interviewed as to their situation and abilities and given more information on the program.
