November 2008

Mocha is an 8 month-old male Pit Bull Terrier mix who has already  been through so much in his short life . .  he could really use a holiday !  Or at least a great home.  Mocha was surrendered to us during a cruelty investigation, his right hind leg had been badly broken and unfortunately his guardian at the time could not afford to have it treated, so he had to wait quite awhile before someone reported his situation to the shelter.  Now Mocha is under the care of the SPCA and thanks to the help of the Biscuit Fund received the $2,450.00 special surgery to pin his back leg so that he can keep it (there were initial concerns that his leg may need to be amputated).  Mocha can't wait to get all better so that he can start over again and become the puppy he truly was meant to be.

If you would like to help Mocha and other animals like him in need of treatment please consider making a donation to the Biscuit Fund

October 2008

Polly is a young adult Border Collie who wants to say a big thank you to the Sunshine Coast SPCA who came out and rescued her. Before she was rescued Polly was living in a chicken coop, actually inside a chicken coop, along with another Border Collie. Their male guardian passed away and the female guardian didn't know what do to with them, they had never seen her much and she didn't even know their names. When shelter staff arrived they found Polly in horrible condition, her ear had a large hematoma and she had a bad skin infection after lying down in her own feces.

Polly is doing so much better now, and thanks to the Biscuit Fund received the surgery to fix her ear and get treatment for her itchy skin.  Polly now can't wait to find out what it's like to be part of a real family!

UPDATE
As it turns out, Polly's ear problem is worse than everyone thought.  Since she was living in such horrible conditions for so long she will need to have further surgery on her ears before she can get better, and may have to have special surgery to have her ear canals removed.  This will allow Polly to still hear a little but she will no longer have any pain.  Thank you to the Sunshine Coast community for all the support!  The $2575.00 cost of the surgery's has been raised!

Polly is currently in foster care.

Bella is a 5-year-old Yellow Labrador who is definitely a little "round" for a dog that is supposed to be in her prime . .  but she can't help it, she loves her treats !!!  And can't give them up, no way!  Bella wishes she could give you an exotic reason as to how she arrived at the Sunshine Coast SPCA, but she was just surrendered to the shelter by her guardians.  Some of the other dogs at the shelter were brought in as strays, and they probably didn't find too many treats on the road!  Once here, the shelter staff took Bella to the animal hospital for a check up and as it turned out Bella had not one, but three large bladder stones that required surgery to be removed.  Thanks to the Biscuit Fund Bella received her surgery, which cost $1,300.

During her recuperation Bella was placed into a foster home . . . where she is now a permanent resident after they fell in love with her.

During an examination at the veterinary clinic, a large growth about the size of a small grapefruit was found.  The growth turned out to be one of the largest bladder stones that the veterinarian had seen.

Rex-Lee's former owner said that she did not believe in veterinary care for dogs and that from time to time Rex-Lee had had urinary problems, which she treated with a herbal mixture.  Which obviously did not work.
