Adoption Information & Prices:
Our Adoption Process:

Once you have found that special companion that you would like to adopt, we have an application that is filled out. This helps us ensure that our pets are going to good, suitable and well matched home.

We also want to make sure you are really ready for the new pet! Nothing is sadder than the pet who is returned to the shelter the following week because the new owners hadn't been prepared for him.

Our Adoption Prices:

*Please note that 7% PST is charged on all BC SPCA adoption fees:

  • Dogs $225 + license fee

  • Dogs - Toy Breeds: $325

  • Dogs - Purebred (documented by appropriate paperwork): $325

  • Puppies (under 6 months): $305

  • Puppies (under 6 months - Toy Breeds): $405

  • Puppies (under 6 months - Purebred, documented by appropriate paperwork): $405

  • Cats $110

  • Kittens under 6 months $140

  • Senior cat (8 yrs +) $55

  • Senior dog (8 yrs +) $100

These fees also include: spay/neuter, first vaccination and deworming, identification tattoo, free vet check, and one hour free consultation with a dog trainer.

Our dog training volunteers are also pleased to meet with adopters, offering support in training techniques - our pets are better than free!

*Please note that in many of our shelters potential adopters are required to bring in copies of their strata council by-laws or rental agreements in order to be approved for adopting. Please contact us at the shelter for any adoption requirements before visiting us to adopt so that you are correctly prepared to take your new family member home.

Q-FOODS:
We use the points to raise money. Without them we would probably have to cut back on our programs! This is probably the single most useful community resource for the animals.

Points can be donated to the SPCA. SPCA Q-Foods cards are available at the shelter and at the Wembly Mall adoption board.
The number is: #1003382243

Save On More Points

SAVE ON FOODS
This new partnership began in 2006. You can donate your Save On More points at the checkout at Save On Foods. They are donated in batches of 1,000. Save on Foods gives us $1 for every thousand points and matches it dollar for dollar. A cheque is issued to our local branch quarterly.

How To Find Us:
We are located on the Alberni Hwy (Hwy 4) and are actually in Errington. We have a bright blue roof.

Coming from North Island, you can take the Qualicum Beach exit from Hwy 19, then turn right towards Coombs and turn left at the Hwy 4/4a Junction. This puts you on the Alberni Hwy and we are approximately 6 kilometres along on the left side just past the QF Caseco Warehouse.

Coming from South Island, you can take the second Parksville exit (the one for Coombs), turning left off of the exit ramp and travelling almost 4 kilometres along. We are on the right side less that one kilometre past the Mid Island Co-op.

Coming from the Mainland, you can travel by ferry to either Nanaimo or Victoria and then follow the signs to Parksville and use the above directions. Ferry travel is anywhere from 1-1/2 to 2+ hours. The trip from Nanaimo is 30 to 40 minutes and the trip from Victoria is about 2 hours.
