We rely heavily on the support of our volunteers. Without them, we would not be able to take care of the thousands of animals that need our help each year. You can volunteer with the animals, working hands with our furry
friends. Or you can volunteer for the animals, as a community council
member or event assistant.

Youth volunteers
*Please note: New volunteers must be 19 years of age or older. Most animals at the Chilliwack Branch are in protective custody. As such, some cannot be handled by volunteers and many cannot be handled by children.
We very much appreciate all our volunteers, and if you know anyone under 19 who would like to assist the BC SPCA, please encourage them to attend our fundraising and awareness events throughout the year. Young people can also organize fundraisers of their own through school clubs, gathering items such as blankets and towels for the shelter, or raising funds by collecting pop cans. Our manager, Ivanna Ferris, is happy to speak to any group about ways to assist the animals at the Chilliwack shelter.
Volunteer orientations
Please note that all new volunteers must attend an orientation session before beginning to volunteer. The session lasts about an hour and includes a shelter tour and information about our programs.
New volunteer orientations are scheduled for the 4th Saturday of each month at the BC SPCA Chilliwack Animal Protection centre located at 6797 Hopedale Road. Please email us to register to attend.

Community Council Committees
To assist the society in achieving its goals it is critical that Community Councils throughout the province are actively involved. While the BC SPCA's Board of Directors has overall responsibility for the governance and decision-making of the society, the Community Council's input to local, regional and society plans and programs is vital to our ongoing success. To learn more about community councils, visit our main governance section.
