Event Ideas

Hold Your Own Biscuit Fund Event!

There are few limits to what you can do as a fundraiser - just use your imagination! Of course, we are here to assist you with brainstorming your fundraiser, so give us a call!

Team Spirit for Biscuit

We’ve got the spirit yes we do, we’ve got the spirit how bout you?! In June 2007  a women’s fastball team raised $230 towards the medical care of homeless animals. Does your sports team have a tournament coming up this summer? Raising funds at a team event is fun and easy to do! Here is what you will need for the day:

  • A table with a volunteer!

Contact Melissa at mbalfour@spca.bc.ca or 604-647-1329 to get a Biscuit Fund-raising kit including posters and donation cans.

At the movies with Biscuit

Got the latest DVD? Planning on having a few people over? Make it a cinematic evening they will never forget and help the animals!

What you will need:

  • a really good classic or new film
  • some snacks for your guests (check out the recipes on our Party Page!)
  • a computer to send out the email invitations

Have your guests donate the price of admission to your film screening to the Biscuit Fund! This idea also works well if you have access to a projector and you can watch the film outdoors. Grab some lawn chairs and watch the Stars under the stars!

Drink, Music and the Biscuit Fund

Can’t think of a better way to spend an evening! If you have that organizing “magic touch”, plan a Pub Night with proceeds going towards the medical care of injured homeless and wild animals. Many Pubs are very happy to host fundraising events and can even provide you with some information on local bands and finding some great raffle prizes. Follow the checklist below just in case you haven’t thought of everything!

  • Contact Lise Brown at the BC SPCA for a Third Party Event application form.
  • Apply for a gaming license for any ticket or 50/50 raffles
  • Don’t be afraid to ask local Radio/Television personalities to lend their support for the occasion!

All events will be listed on the Biscuit Fund home page under the Upcoming Events section. Depending on the time of year, we may also be able to list your party in our newsletter!

Biscuit’s Brown Bag Benefit

Here is a fun and simple fundraising idea for groups of friends to do together! The Biscuit Fund challenges you and your friends to bring your lunch to work for one week and to donate the proceeds of the lunch money you save to the Biscuit Fund. We’ve even created some labels that you can print and stick onto a brown paper bag!

  • To download Brown Bag labels click here

Show everyone at work and school that you are a proud supporter of the Biscuit Fund!

Biscuit EmBARKment

In November 2006 a group of Marketing/PR students from Kwantlen College decided to raise money for the Biscuit Fund as their class project! They formed a company called FUSION EVENTS and began the rewarding work of putting a stylish and classy cocktail evening together. The party was held at Vancouver hot spot Ginger 62 and the bar even created a Martini especially named after Manuel our Biscuit Fund Spokesdog! Several local celebrities donated art made by their creative dogs which was then put up for silent auction. The evening was a huge success raising over $5,000!

If you are interested in organizing a large event for the Biscuit Fund please contact Melissa Balfour at mbalfour@spca.bc.ca or 604-647-1329.

Grooming Session Event

There are all types of dog themed events, so why not do something that would appeal to the cat person in you? Throw a Grooming Session for you and your friends! Spend an afternoon taking after your cat by lazing around and taking care of yourself. You deserve it! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Hire a nail technician to do those important Manicures/Pedicures
  • Get a deep conditioning treatment for your hair
  • Lounge around in the backyard to soak up some
    Vitamin D
  • Makeovers aren’t just for the preteen set, get out those make up supplies and magazines and experiment with a new look!
  • Have decadent treats available for you and your guests

Have your guests donate a gift to the Biscuit Fund for the pleasure of being in your company for the afternoon. Hey, if your cat could, she would!

Email BINGO

Here’s a fundraising endeavour that doesn’t require too much planning ahead! Email BINGO works best in an office environment where there is a group email list available.

  • A day in advance sell sheets of four BINGO cards for $5
  • Have all the numbers cut out and ready to call for the next day -Email BINGO numbers throughout the day, depending on how many numbers your call it may take two days before you get a winner!
  • Make it clear the it is the first person who EMAILS “BINGO” back to you is the winner of half of the money collected (or a really great prize if you one!)

Help! I need a…

Animals that arrive at the BC SPCA can require a number of different medical treatments. Whether it’s a full dental cleaning or surgery to fix a fractured leg, depending on how they were treated before they came into our care, the possibilities are endless.

This fundraising approach can work in two different ways. If you know someone who owns a store approach them with the idea of having customers donate $2 towards the dental care or surgery of a specific animal. The customer will be able to write their name on a “Postcard” with the picture of an animal they have helped. Then display the “Postcard” on a wall display reserved for your event. If you don’t have access to anyone with a store, try and see if you can get a display at a mall or even at a local fair!

If you are interested in trying out this idea please contact Melissa at mbalfour@spca.bc.ca or 604-647-1329.

How Much to Help That Doggie in the Window?

Do you or someone you know have a store window we could borrow? The Biscuit Fund is working hard not only to raise funds for the animals but also to create awareness of its $1.5 Million fundraising campaign. Here is a great way for businesses to get involved in helping injured homeless and wild animals. Here’s how it works:

  • Donate a portion or an entire shop window display!
  • Contact Melissa at mbalfour@spca.bc.ca or 604-647-1329 for display materials
  • Be creative with your window with our posters and any other fun things you can think of!
  • Have brochures available to hand out to customers who would like more information and collect donations!

Have your guests donate a gift to the Biscuit Fund for the pleasure of being in your company for the afternoon. Hey, if you cat could, she would!

Puppy in the Park

Calling all dogs from puppies to seniors! Do you have a lot of friends with dogs? Hold an afternoon event in your local off leash park and have get your friends to make a donation to the Biscuit Fund as their dog’s “Admission Fee”. Ideas for games:

  • Dog food eating contest (Big dogs vs. Little Dogs…etc)
  • Agility Course Contest
  • Best in Show Contest (best behaved, best tricks…)
  • Hot Dog bobbing contest!

Grab some ribbons from a dollar store to award the lucky pooches and you’re ready for an afternoon of fun and games!

Happy Birthday to You or Your Puppy or your Boss or your Friend…

Whether it’s your puppy’s 1st or your 40th birthday celebrate it with the Biscuit Fund! Instead of getting presents this year, make your gifts count towards animals in need. You can choose to either have your birthday guests donate the cost of a present to the Biscuit Fund or ask them to purchase any of the items located on the Wish List! Your local shelter is always in need of certain items and they will be most grateful for any birthday gifts you wish to share.

Make it a theme party! Check out our Party Planner Page for some great ideas and the Wish List.

Biscuit Fund Knitting Circle

Volunteer your time to help the animals without leaving your house! The Biscuit Fund Knitting Circle has already done two patterns, baby hat and booties and a cat blanket. Shiloh at the Vancouver SPCA can be seen in this photo enjoying his new blanket! A new pattern is sent out twice a year and all you need to do is follow the knitting instructions and forward the finished project on to our office! When we receive enough goodies we’ll be selling them to raise money for needy animals.

Contact Melissa at mbalfour@spca.bc.ca for the latest pattern!
