End Animal Cruelty - UPDATE

New Animal Cruelty Laws Passed in B.C.!! Since our End Animal Cruelty campaign began in November 2005 more than 50,000 concerned British Columbians signed our petition calling on the government to strengthen laws protecting animals from violence and abuse. On March 6, new animal cruelty legislation was introduced into the B.C. Legislature, and on March 31 the Bill received Royal Assent and became law.

Bill S-203, an ineffectual Federal bill widely opposed by animal welfare groups across Canada, passed final vote in the House of Commons in April of 2008. 

The BC SPCA thanks those supported the call for stronger federal laws, and commends the 13 BC MPs who registered their support for stronger cruelty laws by voting against S-203. Click here to find out how your Member of Parliament voted.
