High-Paws is the BC SPCA Kids Club Hall of Fame for Kids Club members that are helping animals and making a difference in their communities.

Our feature High-Paws Kids Club member is:
Katie Pfeifer, 12, Saanich

Katie's whole life revolves around animals including raising funds for the SPCA, advocating to end animal cruelty and taking excellent care of her chickens, dog and two parrots. So when Katie discovered her up-coming grade 7 science class would have to dissect a cow’s eyeball – something that Katie strongly disagreed with – she took action. Katie collected 217 signatures from school-mates, friends and family asking the Prime Minister to reconsider the dissection component of the science curriculum. “Dissection and vivisection [cutting into live animals] in middle and high school are unjust and unfair to the animals,” says Katie. “You can use interactive computer software that use virtual dissections, which are just as good if not better.” So far Katie hasn’t heard back from the Prime Minister’s office but High-Paws to Katie for standing up for animals

Matt Peneszlenyi raised $121 for the animals at the Trail SPCA. Staff at the shelter were thrilled when Matt paid them a surprise visit and delivered not only a bag full of money but also his ponytail! Part of the conditions of Matt’s fundraiser was that he would lose his precious locks in order to raise the funds. Well done Matt!
Gabby Freeman (holding Manuel) & SPCA staff member Jennifer at the Vancouver Shelter	Gabby Freeman of Vancouver recently turned 9 and instead of gifts asked her friends to make a donation to the BC SPCA. The party raised $300! Check out the special newsletter her dad designed to thank her friends. Way to go Gabby!
